Caring for silk

It outlives cotton — if you let it.

Washing

Cold water, pH-neutral silk detergent, by hand. Or a delicate machine cycle inside a mesh bag. Never bleach, never biological powder — the enzymes eat the protein.

Drying

Do not wring and never tumble dry. Press between a towel, then hang in shade. Direct sun bleaches the dye and weakens the filament.

Pressing

On the reverse, low heat, while barely damp. Silk resents a dry iron.

Keeping

Folded in a breathable bag, away from light. Cedar, not mothballs.
